The series finale of ITV’s much-loved drama The Bay left viewers in a state of shock and disappointment with one aspect of the episode sparking outrage.
The gripping detective series reached its climax on the evening of Tuesday (March 11) as the sixth series concluded with yet another intense instalment.
DS Jenn Townsend was at the forefront of unravelling who was behind the tragic demise of student Hannah Dawson, with the audience eventually learning that professor David Wallasey was the perpetrator, seeking to protect his own tarnished name.
However, it was the unforeseen twist involving DS Karen Hobson that had fans up in arms. After the police welcomed David’s admission, they were taken aback when DS Hobson was suddenly suspended from her duties.

Under the new leadership of DCI Josephine Harding, the decision to suspend Karen on account for not offering an apology to an officer related to a vigil incident, seemed rather hasty to those watching at home, reports the Express.
It didn’t take long for fans to vent their frustration on a particular social media platform, with reactions such as: “Oh no no no poor Karen this is outrageous.”
Support for the character poured in with further comments like: “Karen doesn’t deserve to be fired!” Alongside praise for the finale’s familial conclusion, hope for the show’s return was expressed by a fan saying: “Brilliant finale! ! ! Glad it ended with the family enjoying time together. I really hope there is going to be another season and that Tony will bounce back and Karen will be reinstated as it wouldn’t be the same without them.”
One viewer was particularly disgruntled with a character’s treatment in the show, stating: “I love #thebay but they did Karen dirty! Justice for Karen Hobson, she had nothing to apologise for! Get her reinstated, heck get her a promotion! ! @ErinShanagher. Glad she didn’t apologise and stood her ground.”
As ‘The Bay’ wrapped up its latest season, fans couldn’t hold back their admiration. A tweet from one satisfied viewer read: “The bay is so incredibly written, not only does it portray the usual connotations of a crime show amazingly, but also invests in the characters emotions and explores reasons why they make decisions, it gives it depth and makes it relatable, pls say there’s an s6 coming.”
Yet another fan joined the chorus of praise, expressing hopes for future episodes: “Another great series of the Bay really hope we get another as I love this show and think the cast are fantastic!”.
