SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Scary moments in Del Mar when a vehicle jumped a curb and went into a crowded park, injuring two people on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
San Diegans enjoying a day at Powerhouse Park along Coast Blvd in Del Mar saw a vehicle drive over a curb, into a sign, through bushes, landing in the park around 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, hitting and injuring two people.
Witnesses say crowds of people were enjoying the nice day when they heard a sign crack, then screams, as people rolled out of the way.
San Diego Sheriff deputies responded to the scene. Two people were hit by the vehicle and taken to the hospital with reported non-life-threatening injuries, authorities say.
Deputies report an elderly man is believed to have hit the gas instead of the brake, leading to the crash.
Lifeguards, sheriff deputies and firefighters responded to the scene. Authorities have not released any additional information on the driver at this time.
