Portobello Comedy Night 

Date: Friday, 9 May

Location: Beach Lane Social Club, 7-9 Figgate Street, EH15 1HL 

The Beach Lane Social Club is hosting a Portobello Comedy Night in collaboration with Momentum Entertainment next week. The night will star American comedian Mike Capozzola with Aberdeen Fringe Comic of the Year finalist Sean Chalmers, and Edinburgh-based Ifrah Qureshi. There will also be a mystery special guest, who is yet to be revealed. Tickets are £15.

Edinburgh Food Social cooking classes for teens 

Date: Every Thursday afternoon in May 

Time: 15:30 – 17:00 

Location: EFS Kitchen, 47 Peffer Place, EH16, 4BB 

Edinburgh Food Social is now running after school cooking classes with their Good Food Youth Club. They welcome 13-17 year olds for 90-minute classes that run every Thursday afternoon in May. Teens will be able to learn about how to cook with local, seasonal food and will get an opportunity to meet new people whilst gaining recipes to cook their own dinners.

Art residency at The Cameo: Iggy Pop Isn’t Dead 

Date: Sunday, 4 May 

Time: 20:00 – 22:00 

Location: The Cameo (bar area), 38 Home Street, EH3 9LZ 

Arthouse cinema The Cameo will be presenting the opening of Finley Yates’ Iggy Pop Isn’t Dead. Alongside the debut of the art show, there will be a performance by Alice Borovets. Their latest exhibition with Ysobel Gouriet is still available to view until the end of this week. No need to book in advance, and the event is free to attend.

Makers ‘n’ Bakers market at Leith Arches 

Date: Sunday, 4 May 

Time: 10:00 – 16:00 

Location: Leith Arches, 6 Manderson Street, EH6 8LY 

Makers ‘n’ Bakers Scotland is hosting a Spring Craft Market at Leith Arches this weekend. They are welcoming a variety of stallholders selling everything from food, to arts and homemade goodies. Bandit Burgers and Arches Hub will be providing food and drink throughout the day. The dog-friendly event will also have a sensory hour for the first hour of the day, which means there will be no overwhelming lights or music. 

MNB Spring Craft Market – Forever Edinburgh 

Pop-up fundraiser for transgender rights 

Date: Sunday, 4 May

Time: 12:00 – 17:00 

Location: Sett Studios, 127 Leith Walk, EH6 8NT 

This weekend, Sett Studios is hosting a pop-up market to support transgender and non-binary members of the community. The mutual aid fundraiser will feature second-hand clothes swaps, pay-what-you-can haircuts, DJs and art prints. All money raised will go towards gender affirming care for individuals in the Leith community, and all stalls, services and music will be by transgender and non-binary people.
