A woman visiting from Connecticut was shot walking with her 11-year-old son Sunday night across the street from AMC River East 21 movie theater Sunday night in Streeterville.
Around 8:10 p.m., the 46-year-old woman and son were walking back to their hotel after having a pizza dinner and were waiting for the light to change so they could cross the street at the corner of Illinois Street and Columbus Drive, according to a police report.
“She heard two gunshots and saw feathers flying around from her coat and felt a sharp pain in her right forearm,” the report said.
She and her son ran south across the river to Wacker and Columbus drives, where they asked a passerby for help. That person and her son called 911 and she was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she was in good condition, police said.
Police officers on the scene for a “battery in progress,” which turned into shots fired outside the AMC River East 21 movie theater, 322 E. Illinois St., recovered video footage from theater’s security office and recovered at least six fired shell casings at 342 E. Illinois St., the report said.
Detectives were also reviewing private video footage which showed a man firing a gun who was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with black marking on its front and on its sleeves, the report said. The alleged gunman was about six feet tall, had long dreadlocks and white and black shoes, the report said. He fled in an unknown direction and was not in custody.
Area 3 detectives are investigating.
