Thousands of protesters show up to Edinburgh demonstration following Supreme Court ruling on what a woman is

THOUSANDS of protesters attended a demonstration in Edinburgh following the Supreme Court’s ruling on what a woman is.

The demonstration was planned in the aftermath of the court’s ruling, with crowds gathering outside the UK Government building on Saturday.

Protesters arrived to show their opposition to the court’s ruling that saw women defined by biological sex under the equalities act.

Thousands reportedly brandished flags, placards and banners as they marched through the Scots capital.

Protesters took to the streets to demonstrate against the court ruling which would see trans people excluded from female only spaces despite having gender recognition certificates.

The ruling was made last Wednesday by the UK Supreme Court in London, but was met with outrage as protesters took to the streets across the UK in opposition of the decision.

A judge said following the decision that the ruling should not be seen as a victory for one side or the other.

Despite this, activist group For Women Scotland were seen celebrating the decision alongside public figures like J.K. Rowling, who wrote online how she “loves it when a plan comes together”.

Trans rights groups opposed the decision organising protests, demonstrations and marches.

The march in Edinburgh was organised by Resisting Transphobia in Edinburgh and was announced immediately after the court’s ruling.
