CHICAGO (WGN) — The Violet Hour, the acclaimed Wicker Park bar that helped define Chicago’s modern craft cocktail scene, is closing its doors for good, the bar announced Friday.
The bar, located at 1520 N. Damen Avenue, has already been closed since May due to ongoing plumbing issues and internal repairs needed at the property.
“Several weeks ago, we closed temporarily due to unexpected damage to the building. Despite extensive efforts and negotiations, we were regretfully unable to reach a resolution with our landlord,” The Violet Hour said in a social media post.
Since opening in 2007, The Violet Hour drew attention for its curtain-draped interior and standout drinks such as the Juliet & Romeo, Paper Plane and The Art of Choke.
But fans of the bar may not have seen the last of it. The team hinted that The Violet Hour brand may live on.
“To every guest who ever found their way behind the curtains: thank you. You made this place what it was. We are forever grateful,” the post said.
