Country Club Hills school staff member charged in alleged chase, battery of student

COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, Ill. — A middle school staff member in Country Club Hills is facing multiple charges after allegedly battering a student.

Cheryl Moore, 68, of Chicago, has been charged with battery and two counts of child endangerment after police responded to Meadowview Intermediate School, located in the 4700 block of West 179th Street, on the afternoon of Thursday, May 15.

Moore left the school prior to police arriving, according to the department. Police spoke with a parent who alleged Moore, a staff member, chased and battered her son.

The incident was one of the reasons that prompted parents attending a school board meeting Tuesday night. In the meeting, they called for District 160’s superintendent’s resignation.

Parent Jessica Camacho, the mother of a fourth grader at Meadowview, told WGN News a student was allegedly hurt at the hands of Moore after they made a comment following recess.

“He said it was after recess. They line up to use the restroom,” Camacho said. “The teacher was coming out of the restroom, he was saying ‘ewwww,’ and she got upset.”

Camacho said her child told her Moore allegedly pushed desks out of the way and started chasing the student who made the comment.

A desk reportedly fell on the foot of a child during the commotion. Moore allegedly reached the child who made the comment after chasing them and battered the student.

She came to the police department to give a voluntary statement before being placed into custody.

The school released the following message to parents on Friday.

“There was an incident involving a student and staff member. The events/description highlighted on social media is not accurate. This particular staff member will not be returning. The safety of our students continue to be our priority.”
