Woman suffers facial injuries after ‘homophobic’ attack at McDonald’s

A lesbian has spoken out after allegedly being targeted in a homophobic attack at a branch of McDonald’s.

Speaking to ABC News, Kady Grass, said she had gone to a McDonald’s restaurant in Carpentersville, some 40 miles from Chicago, to get a drink after attending a school concert.

Grass, who was with her younger cousin, claimed she was called the homophobic f-slur by the attackers, which upset her.

After she walked away, they allegedly kicked and punched her, leaving her on the ground unconscious. She is said to have suffered facial injuries, including a broken nose.

John Kammrad, 19, has been charged with aggravated battery and mob action in relation to the incident.

Grass claimed the police told her they were considering charging him with a hate crime. A juvenile, who turned himself in to police, is also facing charges.

“It blew my mind that this happened and it’s all because I like girls instead of men,” Grass said.

Anyone who has witnessed or experienced a hate crime is urged to call the police on 101, Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or to visit the True Vision website. In an emergency, always dial 999.
