South Bay restaurant debuts burger-making robots

LOS GATOS, Calif. (KRON) — It seems like science fiction, but robots are serving up cheeseburgers in the South Bay. “Burger Bots” debuted Tuesday at First Born Los Gatos and Breaking Dawn Brunch restaurants.

People are both excited and a little scared about the technology. It looks like it can be in the start of a science fiction movie — a robot making burgers.

“This is so Silicon Valley, you can’t get any more tech than this,” said one patron.

The “Burger Bot” in Los Gatos debuted on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

The owner of the dual-themed restaurants First Born Los Gatos and Breaking Dawn Brunch, Liz Truong, says this was years in the making.

“When I came up with this idea seven years ago, they told me I was crazy,” Truong said. “But the pandemic geared us toward self-serving, but I was like, ‘no I’m going to do it,’ and here we are.”

The entire burger-making process takes 27 seconds — catching the attention of hundreds of people looking to get a free burger on opening day.

Truong hopes the robot will not take away jobs but allow customers to get a consistent product and workers to focus on other things.

“I think there’s a huge excitement around this I’m not here to take jobs, I’m here to make it better,” Truong said.

First Born Los Gatos and Breaking Dawn Brunch restaurants are located at 160 W Main St. Both restaurants will feature the “Burger Bot.”
