Sony is giving away free PlayStation Store credit to users who were affected by a glitch over the Christmas period.
If you were hit by a PlayStation glitch over the festive period, you might have landed some free credit for the PlayStation store. The hiccup happened in late December when players found themselves unable to redeem PS Store vouchers or gift cards.
However, Sony is now compensating those affected with a bit of a goodwill gesture. The tech titan has been crediting $10 (£7.90) to the accounts of users caught up in the PlayStation Store mishap.
According to reports from PlayStation LifeStyle, Sony has been informing users about this token of apology via email. The email states: “We are aware that on December 24, 2024, a systems error resulted in users being unable to redeem voucher codes on the PlayStation Store, and we have identified your account as one impacted by this error.”
The extent of the IT blunder isn’t clear, but it’s sparked chatter among gamers on Twitter.
One user exclaimed: “Wait we received $10/€ of store credit for free because a problem with redeeming vouchers on PS store? ? ?” Another referenced another recent PlayStation issue, tweeting: “#PlayStationNetworkDown @PlayStation we deserve ps plus a free game some store credit something for this it’s a Friday night we haven’t been able to play all day”.
A Reddit thread from around the time of the glitch last year saw numerous users venting frustration at not being able to redeem PS Store gift cards, reports the Daily Record.
As per one comment, the issue persisted for a number of weeks. Sony has yet to provide an explanation for the December glitch or the most recent PSN outage.
But how can you determine if you’ve been compensated?
Here’s how to check if you received free PS Store credit: If you were given the compensation credit, it should be visible in your PS Store wallet. Check the email account associated with your PlayStation ID to see if Sony sent you an apology message.
If you think you’re entitled to the store credit but haven’t received it, it’s recommended to contact PlayStation customer support.
