“So surreal”: Scots daddy-daughter duo becomes viral sensation with even Khloe Kardashian lending her support  – Deadline News

A SCOTS daddy-daughter duo has gained virality for their daily dinner videos, even attracting the attention of Khloe Kardashian.

Ryan Pollok and daughter Carly – better known as Daddy and Carly – began making videos during the Covid-19 lockdown, gradually developing an army of TikTok followers that has now passed the 500,000 mark.

The pair from Granton, Edinburgh have become a favourite on the platform, with viewers tuning in for Carly’s “refreshing” bubbly personality and her dad’s “excellent” parenting that shines through on screen.

Many have flocked to agree that young Carly could be the perfect fit for a television presenter, touting her as a “star”.

Much like many TikTok stars, the pair made their account during Covid and say: “Our TikTok was originally set up as Carly would see people doing viral dances and wanted to take part, this was just before Covid lockdown.

“During lockdown we came up with the idea to start doing comedy sketches as wee Mary and Jimmy and this is when our account started taking off.”

In 2020, Carly and Ryan shared a video of her dressed as a Scottish pensioner – the hilarious clip did so well it even reached the US and Australia.

Carly was six at the time, and has been posting videos with her dad ever since.

Now the pair have soared in interest with a whopping 521,000 followers on TikTok and frequent interactions with celebrities, though they say: “We didn’t have any expectations at all, we thought it would just be our friends and family who would view the videos.

The duo describe the half-a-million milestone as: “So surreal and also exciting.

“Although it wasn’t just about the numbers it was also about the connection we have with our followers and the impact we’ve had on people.”

Viewers find comfort in the videos which mainly show the pair eating dinner – or Pilton tea – and getting ready for bedtime.

On a recent video, one TikTok user commented: “She’s been raised with love, joy, laughter and confidence and it definitely shows.

“She’s a wee riot and I would’ve loved a pal like her as a kid.”

Another said: “I smiled the entire video.”

Khloe Kardashian herself left a comment on Carly’s recent video in which she was getting ready for her P7 prom, writing: “Have the most incredible time”.

Ryan added: “For Carly one of her favourite parts is having so many celebrities follow her and comment on the post. Her favourite comment has been from Khloe Kardashian.

“Her favourite experience though has been that she has got to meet Cammy Barnes.

“For us all it’s been the comments – this kindness that everyone has shown in the comments has been lovely and a bit overwhelming.

“Seeing how much we make people smile and seeing that the videos have helped people get out from bad places, it just makes everything worth it.”

The pair often show viewers how they make their “Pilton tea”, saying: “It’s important for us to represent our local area because that’s where our roots are.

“At the same time, we love that we are able to connect with people all over the world, especially with our Pilton teas because we get to find out how other people/cultures cook the same things as us but with different ingredients or how the names of some things are different.”

Carly is often told that she could be “the next Alison Hammond” with some saying they could “see her on TV hosting her own show in 20 years”.

In terms of their future plans, Ryan said: “We are honestly just thankful to be in the position we are in just now, this all just started off as dance videos and to be where we are now is not something we will take for granted.

“We’d love to just keep building on what we’ve got going, whether that means exploring different content, getting collaborations, TV or live events, we are open to it.

“Our main objective is to keep being true to who we are and keep the connection that we already have with our followers.”
