ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) — The UAlbany football team got spring practice started on Monday. On Tuesday, a group of soon-to-be former Great Danes put their talents on display for NFL scouts at the team’s pro day.
Seven student athletes from last year’s team worked out in front of scouts from the New York Giants and Washington Commanders. Three of the seven were wideouts: Jacari Carter, Jamal Cooney, and Seven McGee.
McGee, a Rochester native, began his career at Oregon before transferring to Jackson State and then UAlbany. He reeled in 47 catches for 644 yards and six touchdowns in his lone season with the Great Danes.
McGee ran a 4.48 40 on Tuesday, also going through positional drills. McGee was happy with how his day went .”I just wanted to prove that going from a bigger school to an FCS that I still got it and show that I’m still the person I was when I went to Oregon in 2021,” said McGee. “They could see that I can move and I’m fast and twitchy in and out of my breaks.”
Possibly the most highly coveted prospect in the group is offensive lineman Ozzie Hutchinson. Hutchinson played tackle at UAlbany, but believes he can play any position on the offensive line. Hutchinson put up 225 26 times on the bench press on Tuesday, while also setting personal records in the broad and vertical jumps.
Hutchinson missed six games last season due to a foot injury. This was a big step in showing what he can bring to a pro team. “The past three or four months training I definitely had that chip on my shoulder,” said Hutchinson. “I wasn’t able to show the scouts what I wanted to on the film, so today was a big opportunity to show them that I’m still the same kind of player I was before, if not better. I’m very happy with how I did.”
Defensive lineman Chiebuka Aduaka, defensive back Kevon Angry, and offensive lineman Will Marotta also worked out on Tuesday. The NFL Draft begins on April 24.
