Prince William is understood to be ‘100 percent’ up for a return to TV punditry after his viral star turn on Wednesday night – and broadcasters are reportedly desperate to get him on their screens
Prince William has triggered a TV scramble for his services as a football pundit following his viral appearance on Wednesday night, and he is reportedly “100 percent” open to doing it again.
The heir to the throne’s impressive analysis ahead of Aston Villa’s Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain drew millions of views online within hours of being posted by TNT Sports.
Now, the BBC, Amazon Prime, and Sky Sports are all said to be vying to have him appear alongside their pundits.
TV insiders were highly impressed with William’s knowledge, including his insight into PSG’s tactics and game plan in their previous win over Liverpool, as well as his understanding of Villa manager Unai Emery’s managerial style.
During the interview with Rio Ferdinand and Ally McCoist, Ferdinand jokingly stopped the conversation and said, “Can I just say something? Do not go for a punditry job please – because I could be out of a job!”.
With Villa’s FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace airing on the BBC on April 26 and their Premier League match against Newcastle showing on Sky Sports on April 19, there are plenty of opportunities for William to make another appearance as a pundit.
Fans were thrilled with a six-minute preview featuring Prince William ahead of the PSG game, in which he offered insights into Villa’s training ground tactics under manager Unai Emery. The clip quickly went viral, racking up nearly a million views within a day on TNT’s page on social media platform X.
A Royal insider told the Mirror: “Prince William absolutely loved the experience and would 100% be up for doing it again. He is a passionate football fan and has really enjoyed following Aston Villa’s success this season.”
Touching on the prince’s affection for the national team, the source added: “He’s definitely hoping some of their good fortune rubs off on the England team for their remaining World Cup qualifiers.
“William believes the beautiful game has the power to bring communities together and is really pleased his appearance has had such a positive reaction.”
An industry insider revealed that broadcasters at TNT were thrilled with how the segment featuring the Prince of Wales, who is also patron of the Football Association, McCoist and England and Ferdinand played out.
An insider revealed: “The producers at TNT were over the moon with the segment and the incredible reaction and would love to have him back.”
Meanwhile, Kensington Palace said that they would not be drawn on the Prince’s future plans.
Social media users were equally enthusiastic. A fan on X commented: “William speaks extremely well here. I knew he supported Villa, I didn’t realise quite how much he actually loved the game until watching that. Top man.”
Another admirer praised: “Prince William is a really good pundit, he is articulate, intelligent and really knowledgeable about football,” while another was pleasantly surprised: “Jeez! Never thought I’d hear Prince William talk so thoughtfully about football with knowledge of the game and tactics. Very cool!”.
