The 22-year-old enjoyed loan spells at Burton Albion and Bolton Wanderers, and has now made his first move north of the border.

The left-back has joined Ross County on loan until the end of the season.

The club’s full statement read: “Ross County FC are delighted to confirm the signing of 22-year old full-back Zac Ashworth from Blackpool on loan until the end of the season.

“He has enjoyed productive loan spells with Burton Albion and more recently, Bolton Wanderers. Zac is also a Welsh U21 international.

“Manager, Don Cowie, commented, ‘We are really pleased to add Zac to the group. He comes with a good amount of games played in English football as well as with the Welsh national team at youth level. He is a versatile player who has experience playing as a full-back as well as at centre back.’

“We thank Blackpool for their assistance in making this loan move possible.

“Welcome to the club, Zac!”

This signing brings well-needed defensive cover in Dingwall, as regular starters Ryan Leak and Kacper Lopata both recently suffered injuries.

This comes not long after father Dan was in the headlines.
