Newswise — The FDA recently approved a new drug that is highly effective at preventing HIV transmission with just two annual subcutaneous injections. In clinical trials, Lenacapavir was found to be nearly 100% effective in the prevention of HIV. Current prevention measures require patients to take medication daily or receive an injection six times a year. Jill Blumenthal, MD, infectious disease specialist with UC San Diego Health, is available to discuss the impact of the new preventative treatment, overall HIV care and ongoing research.
The Owen Clinic at UC San Diego Health, recognized as an LGTBQ Healthcare Equity Leader by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, is one of the nation’s top HIV care programs. The Owen Clinic is the largest, most comprehensive primary care center in San Diego for individuals living with HIV.
