A day after the incident, which happened on Oatlands at 12.52pm on April 15, the assailant remains at large.
Police and an air ambulance were called and the victim, in his early 40s, was taken to hospital with injuries not deemed serious enough to be life-threatening.
A police spokesperson said: “There have been no arrests. Whilst this is a concerning incident, from our initial enquiries this appears to be an isolated assault. We have a number of officers carrying out enquiries in the area and we will update as the investigation progresses.”

Residents have expressed their shock in the aftermath of the incident.
Anna MacKenzie-Jones, who lives on Oatlands, said: “There was some commotion in the street and then I heard shouting and swearing and looked out the window and saw that there’s been a stabbing.
“I think it’s a shock in that it’s a quiet neighbourhood and you wouldn’t expect it to happen somewhere like Romsey.”
Another resident, who asked not to be named, said: “I’m a bit shaky because it’s a bit close to home. You just think these things don’t happen in Romsey, but of course, they happen everywhere.”
