Walmgate, a primary route out of the city centre towards the A64 Grimston Bar roundabout, is closed between George Street and Dixons Yard, with road closure signs posted at Merchantgate, following a burst pipe on Sunday, April 6.
Contractors and plant vehicles are on site, including line painters.

As reported in The Press, the water caused the tarmac to buckle and break up in Walmgate and was flowing all the way down the road towards Fossgate.
The road is a major thoroughfare out of the city and is a significant bus route into and out of York.
The pavements in Walmgate remains open, on both sides in places.
First Bus York continues to report diverted services until further notice and are not stopping in Walmgate.
The company has published diversion routes on its website:
Service 8 – use Piccadilly, Paragon Street.
Service 10 to Poppleton from Stamford Bridge – use Hope Street, Piccadilly.
Service 10 to Stamford Bridge from Poppleton – use Clifford Street, Fishergate, Paragon Street.
Service U1 – use James Street, Morrisons, Stonebow in both directions.
Service U2 – normal to station then Nunnery Lane, Queens Street, Clifford Street, Fishergate.
East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS) are also reporting diversions to some services.
Service 747 – Journeys into York: Buses will now board and alight at Piccadilly instead of the usual stops on Walmgate.
Journeys out of York: Buses will be diverted via Piccadilly, Coppergate, and Tower Street, before rejoining the normal route on the A1079.
Service 18 – Journeys into York: These services are unaffected and will continue to operate as usual.
Journeys out of York: Buses will be diverted via Piccadilly, Coppergate, Tower Street, and Fulford Road to avoid the closure.
