The application was sent to Adur and Worthing Councils concerning the retail unit at 82-84 Montague Street in the centre of Worthing.
It was submitted on behalf of Slots Trading Ltd.
The unit, which was formerly used as a Card Factory retailer, has been vacant since last year.
The application does not go into specifics, but a drawing suggests that the new premises would mostly contain electronic gambling machines.
A statement from the application reads: “Slots Trading Ltd are an established operator across the south-east and have carefully chosen 82-84 Montague Street as their next location.
The site was formerly a Card Factory (Image: Google) “Arcades/bingo premises are amusement centres which consist of gaming machines for the entertainment and leisure of customers.
“These establishments are common in town centres and high street locations.
“Premises of this type generate no more noise than other retail uses and they attract a similar customer base to the nearby shops and commercial activities.”
The application is only for a change of use of the ground floor and does not propose any external changes at this stage.
However, the applicant is open to discussions on the potential external appearance of the unit if deemed appropriate by the local planning authority.
The internal layout will remain largely unchanged, with the floorspace being utilised as it is.
The site has been vacant since 2024 (Image: Google) Minor works, including a new entrance lobby, an ancillary office, customer WC, and service station, are required.

The arcade is expected to employ seven to eight full-time employees.
In terms of its offering, the application notes that the arcade, which incorporates bingo, is a specialised venue of gaming machines licensed under the Gambling Commission.
It is considered different from a traditional amusement arcade or an Adult Gaming Centre in its gaming offering.
The application also notes that there is a small number of arcades within Worthing, and therefore, it is considered that this application would not lead to an over-concentration or over-proliferation that could adversely impact the vitality or viability of the town centre.
