Fire crews battle blaze in Glasgow Southside cafe

A spokesperson or the Scottish Fire and Rescue service said that three appliances had been sent to the scene.  

There have been no reported injuries. A cordon has been put around the area while the flames are brought under control. 

The cafe sits under a tenement block on one of the main streets on the south side of the city.

A bystander told The Herald: “I was cycling up and could see the thick black clouds of smoke coming out of building on Victoria Road.

“Firefighters were arriving and a cordon was put up in the area. There are big clouds of black smoke coming out of it, but the firefighters seem to have it under control now.

“There are around 100 people standing around watching and the flats above the restaurant seem to have been evacuated. Traffic has been re-routed away from Victoria Road. I just hope everyone is okay.”
