Stuart Jinks, 47, of Coleridge Gardens, was dealt with by police on four separate occasions in recent weeks for seven different offences, including multiple shoplifting incidents, a public order offence, assaulting a police officer and criminal damage.
Jinks was charged with the offences and remanded into police custody before appearing in front of magistrates last week.

He admitted the charges and was handed a 12-month community order and ordered to pay compensation.
Inspector Matt Plumb, from Darlington’s neighbourhood team said: “We’re disappointed with this result as Jinks is a persistent offender who causes misery for the local community in Darlington.
“People like Jinks are a drain on police resources – these offences alone put a considerable demand on the officers involved, who have worked hard to build cases against him and put him before the courts.”
