Rodd and Gunn is set to begin trading at 18-20 Stonegate, on the site of the former Kingdom of Sweets.
The grade II listing building has been vacant since the confectionery retailer closed and prior to that, outfitter Jack Wills occupied the site from 2009 to 2020.
The planning documents say Kingdom of Sweets were the last tenant (Image: City of York Council Planning) The new tenant’s other UK stores also include Glasgow, Edinburgh, Winchester and Bath – with the latter three added last year to a portfolio which started with a flagship operation in Conduit Street in London.
As previously reported in The Press, an application for listed building consent for 18-20 Stonegate was submitted to City of York Council in August last year did not reveal the tenant.
In revised planning documents of the same type now submitted to the council by Rodd and Gunn, proposals for additional works include “enlargement of the existing opening to the front of the store”.
Plans include new decals and signs above the entrance doors and windows (Image: City of York Council Planning) They added that listed building consent had been granted to install changing cubicles to the rear of the ground floor for the retailer and the documents add that the shop front would be painted white.
In a linked planning application to the council to display an advertisement, plans for signage and logos for hanging panels, over the main entrance doors and windows were also revealed.
Consultation on the proposals ends on February 6 and the applications, 24/02334/ADV and 24/02335/LBC can be viewed on the City of York Council planning portal.
