Where to watch the New Year’s Eve countdown for 2025 on TV

Many of those will likely be watching a countdown on New Year’s Eve as part of the celebrations.

There will be a few options on some channels to do this, with a few favourites hosting their usual shows.

Here are all the details you need to know surrounding how to watch the New Year’s Eve countdown.



Where to watch the New Year’s Eve 2024 countdown

Like every year, BBC One and BBC iPlayer have a special programme in the build-up to the New Year being welcomed in.

This year Sophie Ellis-Bextor will be hosting ‘Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s New Year’s Eve Disco’ which will see plenty of special guests show up to perform.

A summary on the Radio Times reads: “Sophie Ellis-Bextor presents the party to end the year with a night of classic dancefloor hits and anthems from across the decades.

“Plus, some very special guests to perform and keep the party going into the new year.”

The programme will begin at 11.30pm on BBC One, pausing briefly to show the grand fireworks display at midnight.

After that, the show will resume at 12.10am before concluding at 12.45am.

Alongside that Jools Holland will be hosting his annual Hootenanny over on BBC Two from 11.30 pm which will have its own countdown to the new year.

A summary of the programme on the Radio Times reads: “The pianist and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra welcome in the new year, along with the Boomtown Rats, Marc Almond, Roger Taylor of Queen, Paul Carrack, CMAT, Jade, Jungle, The Dead South, Kathy Sledge, Ruby Turner and Toby Lee.

“As is tradition, Jools will also count down the seconds to midnight, before the Pipes and Drums of the 1st Battalion Scots Guards play viewers into 2025.”

Meanwhile, BBC Scotland will be hosting a Hogmanay programme from 11.30 pm, hosted by Amy Irons.

According to the BBC website, a host of “Scotland’s biggest TV stars” will be present alongside plenty of musical guests.
