Crews from four fire stations across Hampshire arrived at the scene of a fire at Cawte Garage at around 4pm on Saturday, June 28, on Trafalgar Road.
Following the incident, a resident has praised the emergency services response to ensure the blaze didn’t get “any worse.”
Mark Flint, 33, who lives on neighbouring Nelson Road, said: “The fire was at Cawte Garage. It looked like it took place at a workshop inside the main building.
“I’ve just come round to have a look; there’s nothing to see from the outside but there was a lot of smoke yesterday.

“The firefighters responded very quickly and seemed to be very thorough, so I’m glad the fire wasn’t any worse.
“The fire service closed off Trafalgar Road yesterday afternoon. I left for work around 7.30pm and they were still here then.
“By the time I got home the fire service had left but you could still smell the smoke.
“Thankfully it all seems to have calmed down today. I think the fire was at the back of the building, which is gated off, so there’s no obvious way of seeing if there was any damage.”
Crews from St Mary’s, Hightown, Botley and Fareham fire stations attended along with a support appliance from Portchester and headquarters in Eastleigh.
The Echo has contacted Cawte Garage.
Speaking to the Echo on Saturday evening, one witness added: “As I walked along Foundry Lane, Freemmantle, at 6.30pm, the road and pavement was cordoned off with a few fire appliances at the scene and what looked like something wrapped up in blue on the road, in front of one of the fire engines.”
