Diane Morgan wants people to know ‘the truth’ about where their food comes from

Farnworth-born actor, writer and comedian Diane Morgan appeared in a video to support a campaign by the Animal Law Foundation.

The organisation is a collection of lawyers who promote animal protection by ensuring animal law is obeyed.

In a video posted to their Instagram, they talked to the Cunk on Earth star in front of a billboard reading “Don’t be fooled by #FoodChainMisinformation”.

They said that 85% of animals farmed in the UK are raised in industrial farms – despite companies using ads that show healthy animals outside.

Diane said: “I don’t think people are aware – they see all these happy, bouncing lambs and chickens roaming free – but that’s not the truth.

“I think people just deserve to know the truth about where their food comes from and then they can make decisions that align with their values.”

Asked by the founder of the Animal Law Foundation, Edie Bowles, what change she would like to see, Diane said: “I’d like to see your poster everywhere.”

Diane is best known for playing the dim-witted, ill-informed, yet earnest interviewer Philomena Cunk.

The character was created by Charlie Brooker for a mockumentary series which so far includes Cunk on Britain (2018), Cunk on Earth (2022) and the extended special Cunk on Life (2024).

Diane also played Liz BBC Two sitcom Motherland (2016-2022) and Kath in the Netflix dark comedy series Afterlife (2019-2022). She also wrote and starred in the BBC Two comedy series Mandy (2019 – present).
