VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A law enforcement operation in Vista led to the arrest of 14 individuals on Thursday for violation of the city’s homeless encampment ban, authorities said.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, there have been ongoing concerns from the community about unauthorized encampments and public nuisance issues in the 400 block of La Tortuga Drive.

Deputies from the Vista Sheriff’s Station’s Community Policing and Problem-Solving Unit (COPPS) responded to the area. The operation resulted in the arrest of 14 individuals that were found to be in violation of Vista’s homeless encampment ban.

Among those arrested was a suspect with a felony warrant for vehicular manslaughter. The sheriff’s office did not release further details about the individual, but authorities confirmed that they were wanted in connection with a criminal case.

Local authorities emphasized its continued commitment to balancing enforcement with outreach efforts, collaborating with local partners to connect individuals experiencing homelessness with available services. The department says its approach aims to address both the needs of vulnerable individuals and the concerns of residents who have reported public safety risks linked to encampments.

Sheriff’s officials are urging community members to report any suspicious or criminal activity by calling the Sheriff’s Office at 858-868-3200.
