An eight-year-old girl has been stabbed to death after intervening in a knife attack against her mum.

The little girl, named locally as Malikika Al Kattib, was stabbed in the back and chest shortly before midnight on Sunday at her home in Co Wexford, Ireland.

She was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at hospital.

The girl was asleep in bed when she was woken up by a commotion downstairs and went to see what was going on, sources told The Sun.

Her mum, 31-year-old Alish Al Kattib, 31, was stabbed in the chest but her injuries were described as non life-threatening.

Alish managed to escape the house and raise the alarm.

Malikika’s dad, Mohammad Shakir, 34 and her mum were rushed by ambulance to University Hospital Wexford. His injuries were also described as non-life threatening.

Gardai, Irish police, are investigating the death, with the house in Upper William Street, New Ross, sealed off by forensics officers on Monday.

A garda statement read: ‘Gardai are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the death of a girl following a fatal assault at a domestic residence in New Ross, Co Wexford on Sunday, December 1.

‘Gardai and emergency services attended the scene at 11.45pm.

‘The girl was then taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment. She passed away from her injuries in the early hours.

‘A woman and man (30s) are receiving treatment at University Hospital Wexford.

‘Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The scene remains preserved for forensic examination.’
