SHRO and the America’s Cup: Working Together to Make Naples More International | Newswise

Newswise — Naples, 05/28/2025 – Scientific research and elite sport have joined forces to give Naples a new international dimension. Ahead of the America’s Cup stopping in Naples, the Sbarro Health Research Organization (SHRO) met with representatives of the historic sailing competition to initiate a strategic dialogue combining health, prevention and innovation in sports.

Those attending the meeting included Prof. Antonio Giordano, SHRO’s founder-president and NIAF board member; Vice President Giancarlo Arra; and Mario and Gennaro Sbarro, founders of the renowned international pizza chain and members of SHRO’s Board of Directors. This meeting paved the way for future collaboration between the two organisations, with the next meeting already scheduled to take place in Newport, USA, the historic home of the America’s Cup and a key hub for SHRO.

At the heart of the discussions was SportsGenomic, an SHRO project based in Turin that analyses athletes’ genetic profiles to help prevent cardiovascular, metabolic and oncological diseases. This innovative approach to prevention aligns perfectly with the values of the America’s Cup.

“I’m truly excited about this meeting with such a prestigious institution as the America’s Cup, especially here in Naples, a city with immense international potential” – said Prof. Antonio Giordano. “It’s a concrete opportunity to build bridges between science and sport”.

“Global events like the America’s Cup can be powerful tools for raising awareness of prevention and health” – added Giancarlo Arra, SHRO Vice President. “Naples is the perfect place to give life to this synergy”.

With a strong presence in both Italy and the United States, SHRO is confirming its position as a leader in international research and is becoming increasingly open to dialogue with the sporting world in the name of well-being and shared progress.
