The Ottawa Senators have signed veteran forward Claude Giroux to a one-year contract extension, the team announced Sunday.
The deal comes with a base salary of $2 million but could rise to $4.75 million based on performance bonuses.
The 37-year-old Giroux scored 15 goals and added another 35 assists last season, playing a key role on a Sens team that made the NHL playoffs for the first time since 2017.
In three seasons with the Senators, Giroux has only missed a single regular season game, the team noted in its announcement.
“Claude brings veteran leadership and a competitive edge to our group and has been a consistent presence on and off the ice,” said Steve Staios, the Sens’ general manager and president of hockey operations, in a statement.
“We are excited to bring him back next season.”
Giroux has tallied 1,116 points over the course of 18 NHL seasons.
