
Anora has dominated the Academy Awards, taking five gongs including best picture.
Newcomer Mikey Madison took best actress, a surprise win with many expecting Demi Moore to take the prize.
The film’s director Sean Baker took best director, using his acceptance speech to make a plea for audiences to support cinemas, which he said were “a vital part of our culture” and were at risk of being lost.
Both also thanked the sex workers in the industry without the help of whom they said they could never have made the film.
Anora also won best original screenplay, with Baker paying tribute to his actors who he said “made me look very good”.
As producer, writer, director and editor of the film – Baker also won best editor.
