(KRON) — The City of Vallejo and the Vallejo Fire Department are informing residents about CAL FIRE’s updated Fire Hazard Severity Zones and their potential impact on the community, officials said.
The updated zones, developed the CAL FIRE, use the latest scientific data and fire behavior models to identify areas at higher wildfire risk, a press release issued Tuesday noted.
“By understanding these new Fire Hazard Severity Zones, we can take proactive steps to reduce fire risk and better prepare for potential wildfire threats,” said Interim Fire Chief Arthur Gonzales.
Vallejo has a few areas classified as moderate severity zones, with no areas designated as high or very high fire hazard severity, officials said. As a result, no changes are required for existing building codes or defensible space regulations.
Residents and business owners are encouraged to review the updated hazard maps on CAL FIRE’s website.
Officials also encourage to check the City of Vallejo’s Local Responsibility Area Fire Hazard Maps page on the city’s website to identify their property’s designation.
Community members are urged to participate in upcoming meetings and preparedness workshops to learn more about the updates and enhance their fire resilience.
