Rural schools are closed Friday in Thunder Bay, Ont., and all school bus routes are cancelled in the city after a dump of snow overnight. The snow is expected to continue through to this evening.

Rural schools are closed Friday in Thunder Bay, Ont., and all school bus routes are cancelled in the city as a snow storm makes it way through the region.
Environment Canada has issued multiple weather alerts for the northwest, including snowfall warnings for Thunder Bay, Kenora, Dryden and Fort Frances areas. Snowfall is expected to continue through to this evening.
The weather agency said total snowfall accumulations of 15 to 25 centimetres is expected. There’s also a risk of freezing rain near the Minnesota border.
School closures today:
- Lakehead District School Board has closed rural schools today due to weather conditions. That includes Crestview, Five Mile, Gorham Ware, McKenzie, Nor’wester View, Kakabeka, Valley Central, and Whitefish Valley schools.
- Public board city schools are open in Thunder Bay. As well, the Thunder Bay Catholic Board, French Catholic, and French public schools are open in the city.
School bus route cancellations:
- Student Transportation Services of Thunder Bay has cancelled all school bus routes Friday.
