A man in his 50s is dead following a violent altercation in Longueuil, on Montreal’s South Shore. The suspect, a man in his 60s, has been arrested.

A man in his 50s is dead following a violent altercation in Longueuil on Montreal’s South Shore.

According to Longueuil police, officers were called to a residential building on Saint-Gérald Street in the city’s Lemoyne borough shortly after 8 p.m. on Wednesday. 

Some details remain unclear, but police say the victim was assaulted with a weapon. The man in his 50s was transported to hospital where he later died. Police say the suspect, a man in his 60s, was arrested shortly after they arrived. 

Saint-Gérald Street remains closed indefinitely.
