AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas made 10 3-pointers and shot 56% from the field to thump Louisiana State 89-58 in Southeastern Conference men’s basketball action Saturday at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge.
The Longhorns shot well above their season average from the 3-point line, sinking 48% of their long distance attempts. They came into the game shooting 37%. The Texas defense held the Tigers to 13% shooting from 3-point range and 45% from the field.
The Longhorns exploded in the second half for 58 points, shooting 69% from the field and scoring on 79% of their possessions. Tramon Mark scored 16 points in the second half to finish with 18.
Longhorns head coach Rodney Terry nearly missed the game after catching the flu, but he battled adversity like his team has this season.

“I was down and out for about 36 hours,” he said. “I didn’t rejoin the team until yesterday afternoon, but our staff had the guys ready to play.”
Tre Johnson also had 18 points to lead the Longhorns while Kadin Shedrick posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Arthur Kaluma had 10 points and Devon Pryor chipped in nine points and six rebounds off the bench. The Longhorns outrebounded the Tigers 35-23 and outscored them 40-26 in the paint.

Texas had 20 assists to LSU’s five. Terry said it was probably the Longhorns’ most complete game of the season.
“We played like a real hungry team that still had something to prove coming off a tough loss the other night on the road,” he said. Texas lost to Ole Miss 72-69 on the road Wednesday.
For the Tigers, Jordan Sears had 13 points and was the only player to score in double figures. LSU’s starting five combined to score just 21 points.
The Longhorns (15-7, 4-5 SEC) will have a chance to get to .500 in conference play when they host Arkansas on Wednesday.
