Kansas man dies after crash while skiing at Winter Park Resort

DENVER (KDVR) — A 20-year-old skier died Tuesday after crashing at Winter Park Resort, according to police.

The Fraser Winter Park Police Department said the man was from Kansas and was wearing a helmet at the time of his crash.

The agency said they were informed of the crash at about 10:52 a.m. on Tuesday by the Winter Park Ski Patrol. The group said a guest had struck a tree on Lupin, which is an intermediate/advanced trail at the resort.

Ski patrol responded to the scene immediately and guests on scene started CPR until the ski patrol arrived and took over the medical aid. Ski patrollers transported the guest to the Denver Health Winter Park Medical Center at the resort’s base, where he was pronounced dead.

Fraser Winter Park Police Department said the Grand County Emergency Medical Services also assisted in helping to resuscitate the skier.

“We join Winter Park Resort in extending our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the man’s family and friends during this extremely difficult time,” the police department said in a release.

The agency said that the skier’s identity is in the care of the Grand County Coroner’s Office. This is not the first fatality at Winter Park Resort this year. A snowboarder who was reported missing on Jan. 26 was found dead later that day.
