
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– A Troy man was arrested by state police Friday for allegedly having child sex abuse images. According to New York State Police, John Cleary, 55, faces multiple charges.
Troopers say an investigation into Cleary began after the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the state police computer crimes unit received an online tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. According to state police, Cleary is accused of promoting and possessing images consistent with child sexual exploitation.
On Friday, state police executed a search warrant at his home. He was arrested shortly after and charged with
- promoting a sexual performance by a child, a class D felony
- possessing a sexual performance by a child, a class E felony
After being processed by state police, he was transported to the Troy City Court for an arraignment. He was then remanded to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility in lieu of $7,500 cash bail.
