‘Several hours’ of freezing rain to hit southern Quebec, says Environment Canada | CBC News

Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning for southern Quebec with precipitation expected to last for “several hours” on Sunday.

The Montreal area as well as western and central Quebec, including the capital region, are expected to receive between 5 and 10 millimetres of ice accretion.

According to the agency, snow mixed with ice pellets will fall down on Montreal for a brief period during the morning with freezing rain set to begin at around 11 a.m. The weather is expected to warm up just above 0 C in the late afternoon.

As for Quebec City, freezing rain is forecasted starting Sunday evening.

Environment Canada says to be weary of icy highways, roads, walkways and parking lots. Ice build-up can also cause tree branches to fall. 

And a winter storm warning was issued for the Abitibi area where Environment Canada says people can expect between 20 and 30 centimetres of snow. Further north, in the Matagami and Chibougamau areas, the agency is forecasting between 15 and 25 centimetres of snow.
