Bethlenfalvy’s speech on upended U.S.-Canada relationship
The finance minister is up at Queen’s Park delivering his annual budget speech, and this one’s pretty interesting.
Bethlenfalvy speaks about living in the U.S., where he raised his children. He touches on Canadian support for New York in the wake of 9/11. He even borrows a famous John F. Kennedy quote,“We choose to go to the moon in this decade,” before pivoting to a list of everything the government is now scrambling to do to protect the economy from the U.S.
“The defence of Ontario’s economy has already begun,” he said.
And, of course, Bethlenfalvy repeats the line we kept seeing on the campaign trail: “Canada is not for sale.”
