RIVER City has never been short of drama.
Whether it’s affairs, explosions or shootings, the last 23 years have been full of shock and suspense.
Fans across the UK were left devastated earlier this week after BBC bosses confirmed the flagship soap is being canned with final scenes from Shieldinch to be screened in Autumn next year.
Here’s a look at ten of the most shocking and explosive storylines from over the years:
2002 – WEDDING BUST-UP ON DEBUT
LOVE and marriage are always dramatic in Shieldinch, and that’s how it all began, too – at the wedding of Tommy Donachie and Eileen Hamilton, as Eileen’s jealous ex Raymond turned up, causing chaos.
2003 – CHERRY PICKER PROPOSAL
SHELLSUIT Bob popped the question to girlfriend Zara using a cherry picker controlled by his best pal Deek – the first of many engagements for him.
An eternal optimist, Bob has been married and divorced twice.
2004 – BOB’S ‘MUM’ DISCOVERY
BROUGHT up in the O’Hara family believing that he was Scarlett’s ‘bubba’, Bob was devastated to learn his nasty Aunt Theresa is his real mother and that Scarlett had raised him as her own.
2010 – STELLA’S FESTIVE PROPOSAL

The lovebirds went on to marry but sadly split over infertility issues and extramarital affairs.
2011 – TALL SHIP EXPLODES
LANDLORD Raymond started a gas leak and blew up the Tall Ship pub to cover up his murder of criminal Sean.
Deek, who had been mown down by Sean, dies in hospital during the exciting but tear-jerking scenes.
2012 – BOB’S EATING DISORDER
AWARD-winning and emotional episode in which mum Molly faces a heartbreaking decision about Bob’s future that threatens to tear the family apart – as her precious son embraces rehab to beat his eating addiction.
2015 – THE RED WEDDING
THE wedding of Alex and Annie goes horribly wrong when a shooter kills her sister Lorna Murdoch on the big day and Annie cradles the victim in her arms.
It is later revealed gangster Rick Harper was behind the sick murder.
2021 – DEMENTIA HEARTACHE
ISOBEL MacKenzie, being cared for during her health battle by daughter Kim, struck a chord with viewers and the storyline – penned by Dundee writer Jillian Mannion – won the coveted Writers’ Guild of Great Britain Award.
