Escaped killer Cesar Hernandez captured in Mexico: reports

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Convicted killer and prison custody escapee Cesar Hernandez has been arrested in the eastern zone of Tijuana, according to multiple Mexican news outlets.

Those outlets reported that Hernandez was arrested Thursday evening by the State Investigation Agency. Hernandez was unarmed when officials apprehended him, and no shots or injuries were reported. The Mexican Army Special Forces were deployed in this incident.

Four months after Hernandez escaped custody, he was found in Mexico. The State Force for Citizen’s Security, known as FESC, was the security agency involved in a shootout with Hernandez.

On April 9 at 1 p.m., in the Barcelona neighborhood of southern Tijuana, 33-year-old agent Abigail Esparza Reyes died trying to apprehend the 35-year-old fugitive.

Hernandez initially escaped CDCR custody on the morning of Dec. 2, as he being transported to a Delano courthouse for a hearing.
