Ella Morgan sends a powerful message for trans rights with her BAFTAs look

Ella Morgan took to the TV BAFTAs red carpet and sent a powerful message to the trans community while she was at it.

The Married at First Sight UK star headed up the TV awards event on Sunday (11 May), wearing a gorgeous black strapless mermaid gown which tumbled into a white floral skirt by House of Savin.

Styled by Becca Ahern and Sofia Styles, the reality star-turned-trans-advocate added a pair of long black gloves, diamanté drop earrings and a classy updo. Morgan’s handbag, however, sent a message loud and clear to the trans community and beyond.

“Trans men are men,” read one side of her bag, and “trans women are women,” read the other. Morgan is highlighting the importance of trans rights following the UK Supreme Court ruling, given her platform since making history on MAFS as the first out trans contestant.

Morgan told The News Movement at the event: “I joke about being in my advocate era at the moment… I’m doing less reality TV, I’m doing more advocacy.

“I think I was given that role whether I wanted it or not,” she noted. “I’m not complaining, but it is a lot of pressure when the whole community sees you on a show making history as a trans woman when we don’t get much visibility anyway.

“They kind of give you that title, whether you want it or not. So I thought, if I’m being given this title, I have to do my utmost to be a positive representation – not just to trans people, but to anyone – anyone queer, anyone who feels different and not represented.”

Morgan continued: “I take it really seriously and I’d like to think I’m doing a good job, being a voice for everyone and trying to show that trans people exist. We always have, and we’re no different than anyone else – well, a bit more fabulous!”

This isn’t the first time Morgan has used her style to honour the trans community. Earlier this year, Morgan’s pantomime performances included a touching tribute for trans folks, while she wore a trans pride flag dress during her first major red carpet event in 2023.
