
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Have you been putting off getting that passport renewed, or getting one at all? Now is the time to change that.
San Diego’s Office of the City Clerk will host a variety of pop-up events at local libraries and senior centers throughout the next few months as a way to promote greater equity in accessing essential travel documents for local residents.
These events provide convenient access to passport services, including the ability to submit applications in person, get passport photos and more.
Pop-up dates
For those who need an active passport sooner than later, there’s a pop-up event slated for Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, at the San Ysidro Senior Center, located at 125 E Park Ave. in San Diego.
Though appointments are filled as of current, walk-ins are welcome between 10 a.m. and noon for those with the appropriate documents, said City Clerk Diana Fuentes.
Beyond Friday, there are three other spring pop-up events, two scheduled in March and another in April. Here’s a breakdown of those dates:
March 7, 2025: Linda Vista Library
Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

March 14, 2025: San Ysidro Library
Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Address: 4235 Beyer Blvd., San Diego, CA 92173
Appointments, one per family, are available online.
April 4, 2025: Mission Hills-Hillcrest/Knox Library
Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Address: 215 W. Washington St., San Diego, CA 92103
Appointments will be made available beginning March 4 at 10 a.m. Sign up for the City Clerk’s interest list to receive an email notification when appointments can be booked.
What’s needed to apply for a passport?
Individuals applying for their first U.S. passport, those under 16, or anyone whose previous passport was lost, stolen or damaged, will need to apply in person using Form DS-11. The following conditions require an in-person application:
- You are applying for your first U.S. passport.
- You are under age 16.
- Your previous U.S. passport was issued when you were under age 16.
- Your previous U.S. passport was lost, stolen or damaged.
- Your previous U.S. passport was issued more than 15 years ago.
In order to secure a passport, the following steps will need to be taken:
- Fill out a passport application (Form DS-11).
- Provide evidence of U.S. citizenship.
- Present identification.
- Determine any special circumstances.
- Provide a passport photo.
- Calculate fees and pay.
- Submit your completed application.
These pop-up events are meant to assist in this process. Be sure to bring the required documentation ahead of your appointment or walk-in.
