Michelle Visage helped name Drag Race star Lexi Love in 2018

RuPaul’s Drag Race finalist Lexi Love has revealed that she met show judge Michelle Visage in 2018 – and Visage helped to affirm the icon’s chosen name early in her transition.

Fan favourite RuPaul’s Drag Race star Lexi Love has blasted season 17 of everybody’s favourite reality television show, making the final with two wins and a legion of fans.

During one of the more emotional episodes of the season, Lexi’s mother appeared in the Werk Room to receive a Drag family Makeover, with the pair explaining their historically tumultuous relationship concerning Lexi’s transition.

But appearing on web series Watcha Packin‘ with Michelle Visage, Lexi has revealed that although her mother wasn’t always as supportive as she is now, the Drag Race judge helped her along in her transition in 2018.

“I have waited since 2018 just to tell you, my last name is Love. I came to RuPaul’s Drag Con and my mom came out, she refused to go for all of it, but she came with me at least, and hung out,” Lexi explained through tears.

“And I met you, and you signed a picture for me, and you said, ‘What’s your name?’ and I was just in such shock and all I could say was, ‘Lexi’ and you waited, and you looked at me and you gave me a beat, and I didn’t say anything else, and you said, ‘Ok, Lexi.’

“Ever since coming to RuPaul’s Drag Race, I wanted to go, ‘My name’s Lexi Love,’ and I didn’t have the time to tell you that.”

“You are beautiful, just Lexi or Lexi Love, it’s the perfect name,” Visage replied after giving the Drag Race finalist a hug.

In a TikTok posted to Lexi’s account in November 2021, the superstar revealed that she was only a month into hormones, marking the start of her physical transition – three years after she met Visage in 2018. Though, as she explained in a subsequent TikTok, being trans is “internal”.

Lexi is in the final four of season 17 of RuPaul’s Drag Race along with Sam Star, Onya Nurve and Jewels Sparkles.

With a fearsome track record each, the showdown for the crown is sure to be the splashiest yet – and for those who can’t stand not having new Drag Race to watch, never fear, All Stars 10 is almost here.

The finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 17 air on Fridays on MTV in the US and WOWPresents Plus internationally.
