Simon Cowell has confessed his concerns as he delved into the details of his bond with his son Eric.

In anticipation of Father’s Day, the Britain’s Got Talent judge engaged in a candid conversation with Jeff Brazier about fatherhood during Thursday’s (June 12) edition of This Morning.

Simon and his partner Lauren Silverman celebrated the arrival of their son Eric back in February 2014.

In the pre-recorded segment, the entertainment industry titan opened up about the significance of fatherhood and how it has positively transformed his life.

“Honestly, [it means] everything. Out of everything I’ve ever done in my life, this is the best thing to ever happen to me. The very first time I saw his scan, I was literally obsessed,” Simon expressed, reports Belfast Live.

He continued: “It kind of gives you a purpose I think. I enjoyed my life, I enjoyed my work. I was getting to a point where I was getting bored. Once you become a parent, then it’s like everything is for them. I actually really, really enjoy his company.

“So like, every night we read together before he goes to bed. I can wind him up if I want to because he’s so easy, like Lauren, to wind up.

“I just make stupid stuff up and he’s like, ‘That’s not real’ and it’s like, ‘No, it really is real’ and he kind of half knows but he’s still wound up but he’s got a good sense of humour. He’s a good kid.”

Addressing the challenges that come with parenting, Simon remarked: “We’re getting to a point where the word phone comes up, ‘Oh god, here we go.'”.

“I’m very worried Jeff, about how much kids can see at a certain age. I grew up… which was learning things at the right time, the right age, etcetera etcetera. I just would be petrified of him having access to anything, that would really worry me.”

He went on to say: “I think schools put too much pressure on kids, which is, you’re getting up at seven in the morning, you’re coming home say at five, six in the afternoon, evening and then you’ve got to do two hours of homework.

“It’s like, they’re ten, eleven, twelve years old. It’s too much. I would say to any teacher watching, ban homework, you’ll have happier kids and they’ll do better.”

Reminiscing about his own upbringing and having named Eric after his late father, who died in 1999, Simon said: “My mum used to say, manners maketh the man and my dad was very good about respecting other people and I’m trying to do the same thing with him.

“Which is, don’t make it over complicated you know, find your path, be happy, be respectful to other people.”

Looking towards the future, Simon expressed his hope that Eric would look back warmly on his childhood spent with his parents.

The BGT judge would love for his 11 year old son to declare that his childhood was “the best thing” that made him “happier” than anything else that has ever happened in his life.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am
