COHOES, N.Y. (NEWS10) — New York State Police arrested a Cohoes man this week after a sex crime investigation. 58-year-old Daniel Sunkes faces felony charges.
On May 25 around 10 p.m., State Police received a report of a sexual assault that reportedly took place in Brunswick earlier that day. The victim told investigators that Sunkes allegedly held them against their will and coerced them into unwanted sexual activity.
Sunkes, who was familiar with the victim, is further accused of extorting the person into taking money out of an ATM and giving it to him after the assault occurred. The victim was eventually able to escape and contact law enforcement.
Troopers took Sunkes into custody at his Cohoes home on May 27 and charged him with first-degree rape, fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree unlawful imprisonment. He was held at the Rensselaer County Jail without bail following his arraignment at Brunswick Town Court.
