Cardi B’s new album title has Drag Race fans gagged: ‘Shaking’

Cardi B has (finally) announced her sophomore album, Am I the Drama? – and RuPaul’s Drag Race fans are all making the same joke.

Seven years after her groundbreaking debut album, Invasion of Privacy, a Grammy Award winning offering that contained bangers like “I Like It” and “Bodak Yellow”, Ms. Cardi B is back for round two.

Announced 23 June, Cardi B’s new record will be called Am I the Drama?, and will be released 19 September – but for fans of a little show called RuPaul’s Drag Race, that phrase has already been permanently attached to one three-time returning queen in particular.

When season 11 queen Scarlet Envy returned for All Stars 6, her promo video during the season’s “Meet the Queens” featured the New York-based, Kentucky-born starlet asking the phrase, “Am I the drama?” in reference to the upcoming season’s spats.

And that just so happens to be Cardi B’s new album name – and the girls are gagged.

Season 12 star and Scarlet’s All Stars 6 sister Jan Sport replied to the announcement post, writing, “Scarlet Envy I am shaking.”

“No way did Cardi B just announce an album titled after a Scarlet Envy quote,” another joked.

Season 15 finalist Luxx Noir London even wrote, “Scarlet Envy should sue.”

Luckily, it doesn’t seem like Ms. Scarlet, who also appeared on Drag Race UK vs. the World season two, will be taking legal action, given that she replied to Cardi B, “You are the drama mamaaa”.

“Scarlet Envy really does have one of the top 3 most impactful quotes from Drag Race,” another fan wrote.

Am I the Drama? will have 23 tracks on it, including “WAP” (2020) and “Up” (2021).

Queer star Cardi B teased the album announcement 22 June in a social media video that heard the rap star say, “Seven years and the time has come. Seven years of love, life and loss. Seven years I gave them grace, but now, I give them hell. I learned power is not given, it’s taken.

“I’m shedding feathers and no more tears. I’m not back, I’m beyond. I’m not your villain, I’m your karma. The time is here. The time is now.”

Am I the Drama? will be released 19 September.
