'Avoid the area': Novato police issue shelter-in-place after shooting

(KRON) — The Novato Police Department (NPD) said a shelter-in-place order remains in effect for the Hamilton area following a shooting. A police K9 is searching for suspects involved in the incident.

Officials said that Novato Police, Novato Fire, the Marin Sheriff’s Office, and California Highway Patrol (CHP) were investigating a “disturbance involving a group of juveniles.”

Police are advising residents to “shelter in place, if home and avoid the area if not at your residence.”

The impacted areas include:

  • South of Hamilton Parkway 
  • East of Nave 
  • New Beginnings Area 
  • Bolling Dr. 
  • Hamilton Elementary School 
  • Randolph Dr. 
  • Lanham Dr. 
  • Martin Dr. 

Novato police drones, along with a CHP helicopter, are assisting with the incident.

NPD said, “a large presence of emergency vehicles and personnel will be in the area until deemed safe.”
