Syria poverty crisis: new regime calls on US to lift sanctions (dubbed)

In Syria, it has been three months since the fall of the Assad regime and reviving the economy is a top priority for its new interim president, Ahmad Al-Sharaa.

The UN says nine out of 10 Syrians live in poverty. This week, the EU announced it would suspend a range of sanctions, warning they could be quickly reinstated if he backtracks on his commitments.

But US sanctions are still in place – so what impact are they having?
