APD searching for person of interest in August 2024 attempted sex assault

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department is seeking public help to find a person of interested wanted in connection with an attempted sexual assault that happened in north Austin in August 2024, according to a news release from the agency.

Around 12:30 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of Payton Gin Road and North Lamar Boulevard. According to police, the victim was approached by an unknown suspect while she was walking on the sidewalk of Payton Gin Road. The suspect tried having a conversation with the victim, but she kept walking. Then, once the suspect caught up to her, he “grabbed her from behind, threw her on the ground, and attempted to sexually assault her.”

APD said detectives exhausted all other options to identify the person of interest and are now turning to the public to help identify him.

The man was described by police as a Hispanic male (Honduran), around 5 feet 7 inches, has a dark complexion, a heavy build, weighs around 130-140 pounds and has medium length, curly black hair. He was last seen wearing a green shirt with a logo in the front with the letters “PARTICIPANT” on the back and light brown cargo style shorts.
