Model Alex Consani on dating as a trans woman in the public eye

Model Alex Consani has opened up about dating as a trans person in the public eye. 

Consani, one of first out trans models to walk the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, can add gracing the cover of Them to her extensive list of successes.

The magazine’s feature, part of Them’s Pride celebration, included the model answering questions from Sasha Colby, Connie Fleming, Blizzy McGuire and Laverne Cox, among others.

Trans actress and presenter Cox asked: “Now that you’re a full-on supermodel, are the boys beating down your door? Does being trans affect your dating life? Wait, do you even like boys?” 

‘I’ve been having my fun’

Consani replied that she was an “open book”, adding: “It’s important, especially as a trans adult, to find yourself and find what you like. I’m still coming into that and definitely have been more active. I don’t think that’s because of my success.”

Referring to the likes of pop stars Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears, she went on to say: “If anything, it might be a little bit more difficult because you never know people’s intentions. There are so many different reasons that people could be knocking down your door, especially being in a minority community that’s often fetishised.  

“Being public and trans has brought more of that kind of attention but, yeah, I’ve been having my fun.”

Consani has used her platform to hit out at anti-trans trolls and the oppressive policies enacted by the Trump administration.

“I like to do as much as I can. I speak publicly about what I believe in and that makes me hopeful,” she said.
