Norton’s North Yorkshire Councillor Keane Duncan, said; “Yorkshire Water applied for an immediate/urgent permit to excavate in carriageway to eliminate rising main pollution. They had asked to have the road closure in place until February 19.
“The council’s streetworks coordinator challenged their works duration and asked them to complete by February 17.
“Yorkshire Water rejected the challenge, saying they needed the full duration to complete the works. They have since asked for a further extension, saying that they require time to investigate using CCTV on site.
“The council’s coordinator will review that request tomorrow.”
Norton Road (Blackboards) has been shut both ways since Friday.
A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: “ Our teams have been working hard on Norton Road to complete a repair on our sewer network and mitigate the impact on the area. For the safety of our colleagues, road users, and pedestrians, the road has been closed.
